Today's focus: Chapura debuts Pocket PC synchronization;
Handmark offers Zagat To Go
By Keith Shaw
Two quick announcements on software for mobile devices:
* Chapura synchronizes Windows Mobile users
Chapura this week released PocketMirror Professional 1.0 for
Windows Mobile devices. The software aims to enhance the Outlook
PIM synchronization features of ActiveSync and Pocket Outlook,
which come bundled on Windows Mobile devices, Chapura says.
For example, the software will let users synchronize with
multiple folders from Outlook Contacts, Calendars and Tasks, and
store that information in Pocket Outlook on the handheld in new
folder-like categories. Chapura says the advanced category
synchronization "dramatically improves effectiveness of using
Windows Mobile-based devices with Outlook."
The software also has the ability to provide two-way
synchronization support for the Business Contacts folder in
Outlook with the Microsoft Business Contact Manager, a contact
manager and sales contact system used by many small- and midsize
businesses, the company added.
The new software is the company's first synchronization software
designed for Windows Mobile users - the company has produced
Palm OS synchronization, PocketMirror Standard, for years.
The Windows Mobile version is now available for $49.95, through
the Chapura Web site ( <http://www.chapura.com/> ) and other
handheld online retailers, such as Handango or PocketGear.
* Zagat To Go
Handmark recently announced it was partnering with Zagat Survey
to develop and distribute Zagat To Go, a mobile version of the
Zagat Survey restaurant and entertainment guide. The Zagat To Go
system has been around for about five years, giving users mobile
access to restaurants, nightlife, shopping, movies and golf for
about 70 major markets. The system is available on Pocket PC and
Palm devices, as well as some Verizon Wireless cell phones.
The $24.95 software can be downloaded via the Handmark Web site
( <http://www.handmark.com/> ) or Zagat Web site (
<http://software.zagat.com/> ). Handmark says it will expand the
Zagat To Go offerings with wireless versions for multiple
platforms later this year.
