Microsoft Lync 2010 puts the "U" in UC
Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2, which was released in early 2009, does a credible job of providing presence awareness, instant messaging, conferencing and voice capabilities. Still, these services aren't always integrated, and thus aren't easily managed by IT staff. For end users, the lack of integration means maintaining various sets of contacts and working differently depending on the application. Read More

Novell: A lament over what could have been
Many folks are sad to see Novell being sold off to Attachmate. I have to admit that when I first read this I thought Attachmate was the company that makes those faux leather calendar and appointment systems. But I was wrong. It appears to be a vessel that a bunch of private equity firms are using to amass what looks like random assets in IT. Read More

- Hacking Windows Phone 7
By Ed Hansberry
There is news on two fronts on hacking Windows Phone 7. The OS was released last month in Europe and is less than a month out of the gate in the US and already someone has found a way to bypass Microsoft's Marketplace application store. Microsoft is fighting back though on more serious hacking attempts, like custom ROM images.<br />

- Is Android Too Open For Google's Benefit?
By Ed Hansberry
Google has never really cared about selling services to the consumer. Instead, they want to give you something that keeps you on their site so they can generate advertising revenue. This is the strategy with Android, but that may be backfiring as handset makers replace Google as the default search engine.
