- Did Steve Ballmer Just Cut The Legs Off Windows Mobile 6.5?
Speaking yesterday, Steve Ballmer revealed that Microsoft will
release Windows Mobile 7 in the year 2010. With Windows Mobile
6.5 devices not hitting the market until the end of 2009, why
would anyone bother upgrading to WinMo 6.5, when WinMo 7 is right
around the corner?

Dennis Hartmann on Cisco Unified Communications: Class-based Shaping
Traffic shaping is a technology that has traditionally been used in Frame-Relay and ATM WAN technologies. Many frame and ATM networks have a hub and spoke architecture where all WAN traffic must traverse the headquarters site. Since the headquarters site is aggregating WAN services, the headquarters normally has much higher interface speeds than the branch routers. The headquarters router will attempt to send traffic to the branch location at much higher speeds than the branch routers local loop connection will allow if traffic shaping is not implemented. Traffic shaping will allow the WAN administrator to limit the throughput from the headquarters to the speed of the branch location.

Oracle Database 11g: Transparent Solutions for Security and Compliance
Historically most organizations have relied on network perimeter and application level security to restrict access to sensitive data, leaving their databases and the sensitive information inside exposed. With Oracle Database 11g organizations can now deploy reliable data security solutions that leverage the security capabilities inside the database, do not require any changes to existing applications, and minimize the costs associated with regulatory compliance and the deployment of strong internal controls.

Spotlight Story
Obama's broadband stimulus: Will wireless fit the bill?

Brad Reed By Brad Reed
Could wireless technologies offer the national broadband capabilities President Obama seeks? Although the government has allotted $7.2 billion for broadband deployment in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the bill does not specify what sort of technology the money will be spent on. Motorola - You Win Some, You Lose Some
Mathias: I am a huge fan of Motorola, perhaps because we owe so much to this company for so many innovations in wireless over the years. I've always found Motorola products to be solid, their marketing people informed and helpful, and the company pervasive and influential even when not the leader in a given case. There's no denying they've run into problems in recent years (but, then, who hasn't?); many assert that the lack of a good follow-on to the Razr was to blame; that's a little simplistic, but increasingly aggressive competition and the overall macroeconomic picture certainly haven't helped.
